Mini Barracuda Program

The Mini Barracudas program is our developmental swim program designed to help young swimmers transition from swim lessons to becoming confident, full-fledged Barracudas, at their own pace.

Eligibility

For the 2026 season, swimmers must be at least 3 years old by January 1, 2026 to participate.

Season Details

  • Season Dates: June 22 – July 17, 2026
  • Practice Schedule: 5 days per week
  • Practice Times:Β 
    • Minnows (commuter parents): 8:00 - 8:30
    • Barracudas: 8:45 - 9:15
    • Minnows (non-commuter parents): 9:30 - 10:00
    • Guppies: 10:15 - 10:45
  • End-of-Season Event: Lollipop Race πŸ…

Practice Groups

Mini Barracudas are placed into one of three groups based on skill level. The Mini Barracuda Coach and Team Rep will assess swimmers at the start of the season and determine appropriate group placement.

🐠 Guppies – Introduction to Water Skills

For swimmers new to the water.

Skills include:

  • Bobbing and submerging the face
  • Supported front and back floating
  • Supported rolling (front-to-back and back-to-front)
  • Supported flutter kick and freestyle arms
  • Safe water entry (jumping in)

🐟 Minnows – Fundamental Aquatic Skills

For swimmers who can float independently and put their face underwater.

Skills include:

  • Independent front and back floating
  • Independent rolling (front-to-back and back-to-front)
  • Freestyle arms and kicks
  • Backstroke arms and kicks
  • Retrieving objects underwater
  • Jumping into water over their head and finding the wall

🦈 Barracudas – Stroke Development

For swimmers progressing toward pre-team and competitive readiness.

Skills include:

  • Freestyle with side breathing
  • Backstroke
  • Introduction to breaststroke and dolphin kicks
  • Retrieving objects in deeper water
  • Treading water, jumping into deep water, and dives

What to Expect

Mini Barracudas should arrive ready to swim in a swimsuit and goggles. Coaches will assess swimmers’ basic skill levels during the pre-season to ensure proper group placement and a positive experience.

Mini Barracudas Are Part of the Team

Mini Barracudas are official members of the swim team and enjoy many of the same experiences as our older swimmers, including:

  • A team t-shirt
  • Participation in Team Picture Day
  • Recognition at the end-of-season banquet
  • Invitations to team activities such as Friday Pep Rallies

Mini families are warmly encouraged to be part of the Barracuda community both in and out of the pool.
